Let me know about Easter..... :)

This year in Mrs.Boyles reading class we decided to make a blog and talk to people from out of the US and find out intresting things that other people from out of the country do different from what people from the US do. In America we celebrate Easter on the 16th of April. When do you celebrate Easter and what do you do down there? Down here, we have easter eggs hunts, family dinners, we paint eggs, we get chocolate and get lots of stuff. I would like to know what you guys do for Easter. Is it a big thing down there?

I'm from Venezuela, so I guess I'm from 'down there'. ;o)
Easter is huge in Venezuela, mostly because its a 90% Catholic country. For Catholics there are all sorts of stuff involved, for example, our Easter break its 10 days long, not 4 (It started last friday the 8th). We can't eat red meat during Easter, you have to go to church at some point. Usually schools bring a priest a few days before easter break and everyone in school gets to go to the gym for mass.

As to what we do, well, its a 10 day vacation, most people travel. Families with kids, go somewhere, since Venezuela has soo many areas, you can go to the mountains (the Andes) where there is snow (we dont have snow normally), or you could go to the beach (Margarita Island), or to the desert, or to the jungle (the Amazon).
